PDP Goal 4

Explanation

In the previous semester, I had participated in some of the school events, and it was really interesting and beneficial. I had learned about how teachers would help in organizing and participating in school events and other activities for the students. In other words, participating in these events was really helpful for me to learn about the teachers’ role in the school as it not only teaching the students but sharing and giving ideas to the school about things they do to develop themselves, students, and the school as a community. In addition, as a year four students that are about to graduate I think that it is important for me to be more involved in the school community as it will develop my professionalism as I will communicate with the school staff about school events and other things that related to the school which will require me to show my professionalism.

Justification

Getting involved in the school community will develop me as a teacher as I will interact with school principal, staff, and students which will develop my professionalism and communication skills as well. As Mitrofanova discussed that, participating in school event would support teachers to develop and improve their professionalism, leadership, and schools which will result in supporting and scaffolding students’ learning (2004). In fact, it would help in building an effective community for the students, in which participating and interacting with the teachers for the events would show that we are professionals teachers (Haertel, n.d.)& (Zeiger, 2016).

Competencies
Professionalism

This competence is linked to this goal, as I will have to behave professionally in which I will be involved in the school events, and I will need to communicate with staff and tell them that I want to participate with them in the events.

Critical Reflection

This competence is linked to this goal, in which I would reflect on the progress for this goal by making notes about the events day and what I am going to do. Also, I will record what I have developed and gain from working on it and about the things I will discover while working on this goal.

Strategies
Critical Reflection

Week 1

In the first week of teaching practice, I started to work on this goal by getting information from the school administration about the events that the school is going to make and the dates of each event, also I asked them about if I can participate in the morning assembly. So, they told me that for every week they make broadcast during the mooring assembly about a subject for the week and if we want to participate with we must ask the coordinator of the morning assembly for this week. Moreover, I asked my MST that I wanted to attend the meeting they have each Monday for the English teachers to get more experience about teachers meeting and how they discuss issues related to teaching, the students, the curriculum, and the how they can develop their strategies.

Week 6 & 8

During this teaching practice, I tried to get more involved in the school community by greeting the teacher every day and sometimes I would have a conversation with them as it will help me to get more knowledge and experience about the school community. I participated in several events in the school. The first is sports day as they had a couple of competition and games related to being health and sport as it was an open day for the students. The second is a broadcast during the morning assembly, and it was about happiness. The third is parents meeting, as I met and talked with some parents of the students that I am teaching. The fourth is a trip to the old people home as the students were supposed to give them some gifts and to talk with the old people. The fifth is attending the English meeting with my MST, in which this meeting had benefited me in learning more about how teacher discussed issues related to education and teaching. The sixth is celebrating mothers’ day with teachers as it was in the final week of teaching practice. At the end of this teaching practice I could say that I had achieved 95% of this goal as I was able to involve in the school community by participating in the school events, by communicating with the school staff effectively, and by talking with teachers who’s teaching different subjects and not only English teachers. Furthermore, working on this goal made me experience the responsibility and the things teacher usually do in school. Also, I had gained more knowledge about the issues related to teacher and how to deal with students to be able to deliver the content and scaffold the students learning.
