Critical Reflection

Critical reflection on practice is a requirement of the relationship between theory and practice. Otherwise theory becomes simply "blah, blah, blah, " and practice, pure activism."

-Paulo Freire -

I believe that Critical reflection is for the teacher to reflect on their teaching and to link their knowledge and experiences with their teaching. As well to accept comments and feedback that is related to their teaching. It’s important for teachers as they have to reflect on their teaching to be able to improve and develop.

Competencies

Reflecting on my performance is very importance to be able to improve and develop my skills and knowledge. In each competence, I had reflected on my improvement in it. Reflecting on these areas supported me in achieving my goals and in increasing my experiences as a teacher. Now I can interact with different people from different backgrounds, to get involved in the school community and deal with issues that I may face in this career such as the dealing students, teachers, school staff, and parents.

Reports and observation

In this semester, I reflected on my teaching and my development in teaching. During the teaching practice, I noticed that reflecting on my lessons and supported me as a teacher to plan better lessons in the future. In which I was looking for things that did not go well during the lesson. Such as an activity that students did not participate in, the time of a certain activity or phases and my way of delivering the key information to students.

PDP Goals

Reflecting on my professional development goals, helped in achieving them and in challenging any limitation and issues that I had faced during the implementation of these goals. Furthermore, I increased my knowledge about my students and about what can I do as a teacher. As a teacher, I recognize that reflecting on my development and my teaching is very important as it the key to improvement.

I had read some chapters from this book that helped in improving my teaching and in reflecting on it. From its name, this book takes about tips that may help teachers in developing and improving their teaching. The book provides several essential ideas and strategies for the teacher to implement in their classroom as it helps the teacher in having a student-centered classroom that students will learn from. The chapters that I had read from this book are:

  • Techniques for effective teaching and classroom management.

  • Planning and assessment

  • Supporting pupils’ learning

  • Being an effective colleague
